Make the brief precise

Where will the material be used? What are the largest finished pieces? Which edges are visible? How much variation can the design accept? These are the foundations of a useful supplier conversation.

Ask who will review structural, slip, fire or other regulated performance where relevant. Request reports that identify the tested stone and method, and have the responsible project professional confirm that evidence is suitable.

Bring the fabricator in early

Discuss handling access, supports, joints, edge details and the cutting plan before a lot is reserved. A dramatic vein may need more material to align across the intended surface.
